wooden bowls help!!!!!!!!?

Ok, so my wife has been dropping hints that she would like a nice set of wooden bowls for her birthday that is coming up soon. The thing is that I don’t have any idea where to go about getting these or what exactly a set of wooden bowls contains. I’m not really into buying a set from target or pottery barn or something and have found a few websites that sell hand made stuff. I guess my question is… What kind and how many bowls are in a good set?

I’m having a really tough time with this. Wooden bowls were the rage in the 70’s. They fell out of favor due to bacteria claims. Wooden items are neither dishwasher-safe nor are they microwavable (both processes will cause damage).

Vegetable oil ingested in them can turn rancid. When buying new wooden bowls or other items, look for labels that advertise a nontoxic finish. But note that most varnishes are toxic. If an item is not labeled, you can contact the company that manufactures it. Every firm that sells such merchandise is required by law to furnish — to anyone who requests it –a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on each of its products.

The best wooden bowls, cutting boards, and utensils are made from hardwood trees: birch, maple, beech, walnut, ash, and cherry.

Normally they are sold with a larger bowl and 4 smaller ones. My old wooden bowls that were my moms hold my sewing supplies. I can’t bring myself to using them.

But these are gorgeous http://www.swahili-imports.com/home/si3/listitems_302_12?gclid=CK-jzunapZ4CFQsMDQodyEwelg
